SYSTRA is proud of its long history of working in India. Our first contract was signed between Sofrerail and Indian Railways in 1957.
In 1960, we were selected to provide technology for electrifying Indian Railways. The 25kVA traction system introduced by SYSTRA has become the backbone of the Indian Railway network. Since then, SYSTRA has considerably expanded activity on the subcontinent.
During the 1980s, the Group helped with India’s first metro project – the Kolkata Metro. This was followed by preliminary studies for future metros in Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
SYSTRA’s presence has grown since the Indian economy opened up in 1991, and in 2005 the company decided to create a wholly-owned subsidiary:
SYSTRA India (SYSTRA MVA Consulting India Private Limited)
This has ensured the company’s strong, sustainable presence in a fast developing country.
