Pragati Maidan Bridge

Indraprastha - Bara - khamba Road-Dwarka(from Delhi metro line 3), 32.1 km long, is mainly built on viaduct, which makes the metro line architecturally unique in India. The Barakhamba Road-Indraprastha section includes the first extradossed bridge in India which is also the second one of its kind in the world built over a railway crossing.

The viaduct, being constructed above 5 railway lines, without any interruption to their traffic. The DMRC, SYSTRA and the Indian Railways imposed very strict safety standards to ensure that no incident would happen and interrupt the daily traffic of more than 200 trains.

Inaugurated on November 11, 2006, the Pragati Maidan Bridge has scored a record in construction time, at an extremely competitive cost. Works were carried out night and day to meet with the execution plan.

SYSTRA India was in charge of all studies in civil engineering, system interface as well as construction supervision, which included:

  • Design study of foundations
  • Study of piers and pylons
  • Seismic study
  • longitudinal and transverse deck analysis
  • Drainage
  • Geometry control
  • Technical specifications
  • Maintenance manual and an instrumentation of the bridge

  • Record time : 9 months of construction
  • More than 230 workers involved in the construction
  • Status : Completed
